Album Info:UP 1982, 1988, 1995, and 2001 were running on the ex-CNW main line in Illinois/Iowa on December 24, 2006; also CNW 8701. I drove from sunny Milwaukee into pea-soup fog south of Rockford. The fog didn't start to let up until past Clinton, IA. I found the Katy and MoPac heritage units eastbound on QNPCH just west of Wheatland, IA and chased them all the way to Union Grove, IL. In the meantime, MPRCB was headed westbound from Proviso Yard with the Olympic Torch Relay unit and the CNW heritage unit. They passed just west of Union Grove, IL at about 1530. On the way back to Milwaukee after sunset, I caught the QNPCH making a set-out at Rochelle, IL. There was no one at the railroad park on Christmas Eve. Imagine that! Overall, a good day marred only by missing CNW 8701 eastbound at Nelson in the morning due to the fog.

Description:  EB QNPCH, led by MoPac heritage unit UP 1982, is about to stop for a crew change at Clinton, IA. It is on the wrong main, passing a parked coal train. The train immediately to the right, with FRED, is on a yard track. The first three tracks on the right are owned by ADM and not used by the UP except for ADM business.
